Ma’an or Ruwaished? Comparing Jordan’s two most requested facade stones

The question we hear most from customers: "Ma’an or Ruwaished?" Both are Jordanian limestone and both suit villa facades. They differ in color, hardness and price, and that difference decides which finish is right for you.

Color

Ma’an is ivory white to a warm beige, with a light natural gradation that gives a facade depth. It is the color of the classic Amman house in Abdoun and Dabouq.

Ruwaished is a calm, very even creamy white with little veining. It suits contemporary lines and large volumes where you want a clean surface without noise.

Hardness and porosity

First-grade Ma’an is hard with low porosity, which is why it takes sharp hand finishes (musamsam, mufajjar, tubzeh) and keeps its edges. Ruwaished is a little softer; it gives an excellent result sawn, bush-hammered and rock-faced, and we do not offer it polished.

Ruwaished is clearly the more economical. Ma’an costs more, and its range is wide because grades differ a lot, so always ask which grade before comparing prices.

Which finish on which stone?

• A traditional facade with hand musamsam: Ma’an.
• A contemporary facade in large sawn panels: Ruwaished.
• A plinth or boundary wall in tubzeh: either, and Ruwaished costs less.
• Interiors in a honed finish: Ma’an gives more depth, Ruwaished is quieter.
